A Little Beijing was exhibited at the Frankfurt Bookfair!

"...Books are a particularly good reflection of the standing of a country. That is why
the Frankfurt Book Fair invites publishing companies from all over the world
every year to contribute to a special exhibition with their current publications
relating to the respective Guest of Honour. In relation to China, that invitation has
been accepted this time by more than 500 publishing companies in 32 countries.

With almost 2500 titles, the exhibition of »Books on China« provides a vivid
impression of the diversity of observations and the challenging contexts when
dealing with China's culture, the China of today and its thousands of years of
history. It is particularly pleasing to note that the appearance of China as Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair not only inspires lively debate, but has also led to an
overwhelming number of new publications. In the German language alone, more
than 400 titles on China are newly published this year. They mirror both the
fascination and the critical controversies, but above all, the curiosity of the book
world when it comes to a country that is repeatedly talked about in superlatives and
on which nowhere near everything has yet been written.

I would like to invite you to share this curiosity with us and hope that you enjoy
making exciting discoveries."

Received a saturday afternoon surprise in the mail! A Little Beijing has been nominated for a design award for 2010. Alas! Everything involves costs. For lack of a better plan, financially, I'm going to head for Singapore Pools to buy a 4-digit lottery.

Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany 2010
Companies cannot enter for the Design Award; instead, they are nominated by the Ministries and Senators for Trade & Industry of the German States or by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. It is a precondition for this, however, that a product has already been awarded a national or international prize. No other Design Award sets its entrants such a strict criterion. Because of this the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany is known as the “Prize of Prizes".

A moment to remember

Before the year ends in less than a day's time, here's a moment in 2008 that i would like to remember.

Early October, Paul Tan from the AWE50ME network invited me to attend the PSFK Conference Asian 2008. To my surprise, he presented A Little Beijing during the Creator Class Panel after lunch. =)

It's so great to finally see the guys (Paul & Brian Tiong) behind the Awesome network, they have been really supportive! So were the people at PSFK!! I met Jeff Squire very briefly over a hand shake during tea time and a month later, i received an email from him. The team at PSFK were putting together a Good Ideas in 2009 report and they wanted to include my niche travel guide in it. Yay!

I'm truly grateful to all those who had believed in this project.
THANK YOU SO MUCH. Looking forward to 2009.

"A Little Beijing" receives red dot for outstanding design.

For its outstanding design, "A Little Beijing" by Linz Lim has now received one of the most coveted design prizes worldwide: the “red dot”. The quality label for sophisticated and innovative design is awarded annually in the international competition “red dot design award”.

This year, the jury consisting of 14 international design experts had to assess the design quality of almost 6,000 entries from 39 nations in the red dot award: communication design. In total 381 entries received a distinction. All award-winning works will be presented to the public in an exhibition at the red dot design museum in Essen, Germany, from 4 December 2008 to 11 January 2009.

A LITTLE BEIJING did not fit into any of the categories listed on the ISBN Application Form (provided by the National Library Board). Two days after enquiring, the nice lady over the phone said: "OK, YOUR TRAVEL GUIDE WILL BE REGISTERED AS '60 POSTCARDS + 1 MAP'..." Why does it have to sound so experimental?

Guess i can't call it a Book Launch anymore. 'cos it's really NOT a book, it's a '60+1' ? ha... So, here goes: DO POP BY FOR THE LAUNCH OF 'YOUR NICHE TRAVEL GUIDE' !!!
